Chapter 23

Lemon Laws

Virtually all states have some sort of protection often referred to as a "lemon law". Some states are very specific as to when and how the law applies while other states laws are very general. It is generally best to try and resolve any problem with the dealer. If no resolution is reached after a reasonable time then contact the manufacturer. It is suggested that you keep good records of dates of repairs. You should also keep track of who you spoke with at the dealer and manufacturer, what was discussed and promised, and on what dates.

If all else fails, look into what relief might be available under your state's lemon law. If you have access to a computer a good place to get started is the world wide web (WWW). If you do not have a computer, then call your state's motor vehicle department and try asking for the dealers and repairer's division.
