Chapter 17
A Little Extra Now Could Save Money
Later
Sometimes spending a little extra today can save hundreds tomorrow. Whenever
you are having repairs made to your vehicle we suggest checking with the
repairer to see if there is anything that can be attended to more easily while
everything is apart. For example, sometimes a vehicle may develop a problem with
one of the engine's valves. To fix this problem the repairer will remove the
head and have that one valve repaired and or replaced; a mini valve job.
However, the costly part of a valve job is generally the removal and replacement
of the engine's head and the cost of reworking the entire head and doing all the
valves may be relatively minor.
However, for some reason, unless you bring it up, most repairers will just do
the exact work necessary to get you on your way. However, in this example it
would probably make sense to pay the little extra and do the whole valve job.
This situation sometimes comes up with warranty work because only the specific
problem is covered by the warranty, but even here you should consider paying the
difference yourself.
