Towing

If your vehicle needs to be towed it is generally best to have it brought to the closest reputable facility available because every mile will cost you. In fact, if you have a relationship with a facility near the breakdown see if you can get them to tow it to their shop so they can make the repairs. If you are in an accident often the police will dictate who does the towing based on established local contracts. If this happens, make certain you find out the name, address, and telephone number of the facility where your vehicle is being taken.

Contact the repair facility as soon as possible to arrange for repairs. If the car was in an accident and is a total loss then make arrangements quickly as to the vehicle's disposition as most shops will charge storage fees.

If your vehicle is to be repaired at the towing company's facility see if you can get them to waive the towing and storage charges. Some facilities will do this if you just ask.
